In Memory

JJ was put out into the pond area on a night that a storm came in unexpectedly. She was found the next day on the shore and had passed away sometime through the night. She was found to have had asperlagosis. I am not sure of the spelling but it is a respiratory infection. We were devastated on her loss. JJ still hangs on our wall over the fireplace along with our other 2 adopted swans,Magic #820 & Whisper #169. She will always be in our hearts.

There was some money left over and Wye Marsh agreed to have this plaque made in JJs memory.
Jeff now 16 and myself on the day the plaque was put on the swan treatment center at Wye Marsh. We rescued an animal in desperate need of help. Who was in pain and who would of died an inhumane death. She was shot by a human. She is a protected species. And she suffered before we found her. What keeps us going in our loss. Is that JJ was pain free, cared for by loving hands and in the company of other swans being a swan on her last days. She was an inspiration to all that met her and those that just heard of her. She fought for life. We gave her one more year of life. Do I regret that. No I do not. She was a beautiful swan. Who maybe was put here to teach people that something can be done when someone does wrong by a living being in the wild. That we can do something about these things if we "get involved". So get involved. Get pictures and take it to the authorities. I was told we would never get charges laid under the migratory bird act. But we did. And although he tried to say he didn't do it. We had it all . He admitted his guilt and paid his dues. Hopefully to come out with respect towards wildlife. You never know who is watching!!
This little lady touched the lives of many. But for us. She will live on in our hearts forever.

Also a couple years after JJ's rescue. The young lady who rescued her ,Allison was diagnosed with cancer. She worked I believe to the very end rescuing lives of animals and birds of all shapes and sizes. She gave her all and passed away having rescued many lives and comforted many a feathered or furry friend. She passed away soon after and is greatly missed. Allison and Alex came and rescued JJ on a cold November day. They stuck it out til they got her not leaving her behind. They calmed her, comforted her and warmed her. They comforted us as well on our worries and fears. They are a special breed. It was an honor to have met Allison and been a part of the life she led. Of the life she loved so much. She was and still is greatly missed. But will never be forgotten. I cant thank them and TWC enough for being a part of giving a life a second chance.
