The rescue November 2005

The rescue was a success. The loon very lucky. James had to assess it on the spot. It had line wrapped around its bill, its tongue, wings. You name it. It was horrid. The poor thing had no fight left. It was done. When it last ate was anybodies guess. It was hungry and tired. The following photos will show you how bad it was and how loving hands took care of it.

                                                   Immediate assistance was needed.
The check up began on the spot right in the boat.

Look closely and you see a tiny red pc.of a lure that the rest was in the mouth.

A loon has a fragile body and needs the correct cushioning to protect its sternum. Covering it calms                                                 it down. Although this loon had no fight left.

You can see the fishing line in it's throat.

                                                           At the OSPCA in Midland.

                                                                 One pc retrieved.
